The legacy of beloved author and illustrator Raymond Briggs is being celebrated in a new exhibition at the Ditchling Museum of Art and Craft in East Sussex. The museum is showcasing never-before-seen belongings and artwork from Briggs, known for iconic works such as The Snowman, Father Christmas On Holiday, and When The Wind Blows.

Visitors to the exhibition, titled Bloomin’ Brilliant: The Life and Work of Raymond Briggs, will have the opportunity to see Briggs’ writing and drawing desk, which he used for over 40 years, as well as 100 original artworks from his impressive 60-year career. The exhibition offers a unique insight into Briggs’ creative process and the inspiration behind his timeless stories.
A museum spokesperson highlighted Briggs’ exceptional talent as both a draughtsman and storyteller, noting his ability to capture both the magical and the mundane in his work. Museum director Steph Fuller expressed the privilege of curating the exhibition, sharing that being in Briggs’ studio felt like he could return at any moment.
The exhibition is a fitting tribute to Briggs, who passed away in August 2022 at the age of 88. It opens to the public on Saturday, offering fans and art enthusiasts alike the chance to immerse themselves in the world of this legendary creator.
