Rasmus Hojlund insists Erik ten Hag has backing of entire Man Utd squad despite talk of divided dressing room

Ramus Hojlund insists ‘every player in the dressing room’ is behind under-fire Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.

United fell to a 4-3 defeat to FC Copenhagen on Wednesday night, their ninth loss in 17 games this season and one that leaves their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League hanging by a thread.

The result heaps more pressure on ten Hag who has tried to keep the squad galvanised and united during their woeful start to the season.

A growing number of reports have raised questions over the Dutchman’s future in recent weeks. Ahead of last Saturday’s win over Fulham, it was claimed there is growing unrest in the dressing room with concerns over ten Hag’s management, with some feeling he favours certain players over others.

Reports elsewhere have claimed that while he retains some ‘loyalists’ within the squad, others have questioned his treatment of others, including Jadon Sancho and Harry Maguire.

Wednesday’s defeat will turn up the pressure ahead of the visit of Luton Town on Saturday. Hojlund, who scored twice early on against Copenhagen, insists there is still firm belief in the manager, telling reporters: “[He is] a really good coach.

‘He cares about every single detail and he helps me a lot, gives me a lot of confidence and supports me. I think every player in the dressing room supports him.

‘I hope it is just a matter of time [before United will be successful]. The first 30 minutes today was some of the best football we have been playing this season.’

Hojlund’s two goals took his tally in Europe to this season to five – making him the Champions League’s top scorer alongside Atletico Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.

The 20-year-old is still to open to his account in the Premier League, however.

‘He understands but of course, we speak with him about this because he is still a young player,’ ten Hag said of his young striker this week.

‘He is smart. He understands the situation he is in and he is aware of it and he wants to score goals. When he is not, he is so keen to score in the next game.

‘He is working very hard in training to get his progress in.’
