Radio 2 listeners have had mixed reactions as the BBC revealed its brand new weekday morning music quiz: Ten to the Top.
The new quiz was unveiled following Ken Bruce’s departure from the station after more than 30 years of presenting the mid-morning show.
Bruce, 72, had initially intended to leave Radio 2 towards the end of March, before joining up with former BBC alumni Simon Mayo at Greatest Hits Radio.
However, once the news broke that he was leaving, Bruce then unexpectedly announced that his contract would be terminated three weeks early.
Before Vernon Kay was confirmed as his replacement, Greatest Hits Radio announced that Bruce would be taking PopMaster with him to his new home.
That left Radio 2 needing to come up with a new music quiz to replace it, and crucial details have now emerged about PopMaster’s biggest quiz rival.

According to On the Radio, Ten to the Top will be ‘an accumulator quiz where it pays to answer the questions correctly in order’.
The explanation continues: ‘There are 10 questions, with the first worth one point; the second, two points; the third, three etc.’
However, there’s a catch: ‘If a question is answered incorrectly, the value of the next question goes back to one point again.’

On the air during Zoe Ball’s Breakfast Show, Gary Davies, who will step in for Bruce before Kay’s arrival in May, gave listeners more details.
‘Our brand new daily quiz, at 10.30, it launches this morning. Two contestants will go head to head, whoever scores the highest wins a Radio 2 smart speaker,’ he said.
In addition to the basic rules, ‘each contestant also has a joker to play, which gives them the chance to earn double points’, Davies, 65, revealed to the listeners.

However, not everyone was happy as one viewer complained: ‘Could Radio 2 have made the new quiz any more like PopMaster?’
Another listener remarked: ‘New quiz sounds way too complicated, poor,’ while others also criticised the nature of the new rules.
However, there was some positivity to be seen on social media: ‘Loving the sound of Radio 2’s new quiz Ten to the Top. Can’t wait to listen at 10:30am.’
Another user said that while it seems a little confusing right now, Ten to the Top ‘will become clearer’ as time goes on.

Others who seemed satisfied with the new quiz also pointed out that the name of the quiz caused some Twitter users some hashtag-related confusion.
‘We collectively need to decide on whether the hashtag is #10ToTheTop or #TenToTheTop,’ one user commented, while others suggested #10TTT or #T4.
Listen to Ten to the Top on BBC Radio 2 on iPlayer or BBC Sounds.
