Race Across the World has crowned its winners, with Cathie and Tricia reaching the final checkpoint first after two gruelling months on the road.
The third season of the BBC reality series started with five teams of two who were tasked with making it all the way from Vancouver, British Columbia to St John’s in Newfoundland and Labrador on the other side of Canada with limited budgets.
It all ended when Tricia, 48, and Cathie, 49, managed to edge out the rest of the competition and claim the £20,000 cash prize.
The first to arrive at the Lighthouse on Cape Spear, Mobeen and Zainib followed in second place, with Ladi and Monique coming in third.
Opening the guestbook, the long-time friends embraced each other and broke down in tears when they realised what they had achieved.
Shocked and elated when they realised they had come out on top, Tricia said that it was ‘crazy madness but amazing’.

‘We’ve raced across the whole of Canada, with sod-all budget, eaten cream cheese and crackers, got lost in Stanley Park and we’ve come first. How bloody amazing is this,’ she said while holding back tears.
After first saying she ‘didn’t have any words’, Cathie then yelled out over the ocean: ‘We won.’
She later added: ‘I’m totally elated, I feel just total elation mixed with a bit of disbelief. I’m overwhelmed, it’s incredible. I think it’s the best way to say thank you to all of the people in Canada who have helped us get here. It’s just unreal.’
Their competitors also threw their support behind the pair, with Mobeen and Zainib saying they were ‘glad’ for them.
‘I am happy to have finished the face and for Cathie and Tricia to have won it. They are worthy winners,’ he said.

Many fans threw their support behind the winners.
‘Fabulous! Another uplifting series of Race Across the World. [I] loved following all their journeys across Canada as well as their personal journeys too. Pleased for Tricia and Cathie – especially considering they couldn’t find their way out of the park in the first episode!’ one person posted on Twitter.
‘YES!!! Cathie and Trish won!!! Aww, so well deserved and with one of them slowly losing her sight, what an adventure!’ someone else wrote.
Another added: ‘Amazing finale, loved all of them but so happy for Tricia and Cathie.’

Their win came after father-daughter team Kevin and Claudia revealed at the start of the episode they had pulled out of the race after their budget had become too limited for them to continue.
Over the past eight weeks Cathie and Tricia had also battled a dwindling budget, and pushed themselves to their limits, with the latter’s sight condition – chromo retinopathy uveitis – motivating her evermore.

Their final leg was a far cry from their starting point which saw them take over three hours to make it out of the starting blocks at Stanley Park.
However, they went on to win the second and third leg and survive a surprise elimination round, as well as overtake Zainib and Mobeen’s 14-hour lead at the start of the final leg.
Race Across the World is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
