Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story creator Shonda Rimes insisted that she didn’t incorporate Meghan Markle’s experience in the Royal Family.
A prequel to the hugely popular period drama, this series focuses on young Queen Charlotte’s rise to prominence and power, as well as her romance with King George (Corey Mylchreest).
Golda Rosheuvel reprises her role as the monarch, while India Amarteifio plays the younger version of the character in the six-part series.
In this edition, Charlotte is a mixed-race woman, played by India Amarteifio, then Golda Rosheuvel in later years – and fans previously claimed that the Duchess of Sussex was used as inspiration.
However, showrunner Shonda insisted that wasn’t the case.
‘Meghan Markle did not enter into it,’ she told Vulture.

‘My brain mostly thinks in terms of American politics, unfortunately, so I was really thinking about what would happen if this girl, Charlotte, came to America and was married off and how that was handled.’
While the Bridgerton spin-off was billed as a limited series, many are hoping there could be a season 2 in the works.
Shonda recently addressed the possibility of a second instalment but she’s ‘not having conversations about it yet’.
‘I could live with Charlotte and George forever, but we told a very specific, closed-ended story that I think is a complete tale of this complicated, imperfect love,’ she told Entertainment Weekly.

‘But I’m not ruling anything out because I never know.’
Queen Charlotte definitely delivered on the raunchy material, with more than 20 sex scenes across the six episodes.
‘I’m only on episode 3 and there has been more sex than both seasons of Bridgeton combined,’ someone pointed out.

Another added: ‘This s*** got me sweating.’
Actress India revealed she had some awkward moments after choosing to watch her sex scenes with her mum.
When appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the 21-year-old advised some of her family members that they might want to pick up some alcohol before tuning into the show.
‘I just felt like I needed to jump in the deep end and show her all the steamy scenes and get it out of the way and then we can get past it,’ she explained.
Queen Charlotte is available to stream on Netflix.
