World Cup 2022
International football has returned with the World Cup 2022 qualifiers resuming, England will need to put the thrills of the Euros behind them and focus on the task ahead.
Gareth Southgate’s men impressed on their way to the Euro 2020 final against Italy – narrowly missing out on penalties at Wembley.
But this England team appears to be going from strength to strength and a place at Qatar 2022 already looks likely with three wins from three games so far.
As England resumes their World Cup qualifying campaign away to Hungary tonight, it might be the trickiest test in their bid to reach Watar so far.
Hungary failed to reach the knockout stages of Euro 2020 but still managed to impress in the so-called ‘Group of Death’
Both sides are unbeaten in Group I – where only the winners are guaranteed qualification, but England hold a two-point lead at the top after Hungary dropped points in their 3-3 draw with Poland.

PREDICTION
England v Hungary prediction
The majority of the Hungary squad is the same as their Euro 2020 team with a few additions.
I would be wrong to take them lightly, they were excellent in the Euros ‘group of death’ narrowly missing out on a place in the knockout stages.
But England made their own mark this summer and return to international football with the majority of players who served them in the tournament.
It’ll be a tight game, but England will edge the win.
Hungary 0 – England 1
ENGLAND-HUNGARY | Team News, Where To Watch
England manager Gareth Southgate’s only real concern going into tonight’s match is Jadon Sancho after the winger picked up a knock.
England has already lost striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin after a thigh injury during Everton’s game on Saturday.
Southgate did not draft a replacement, raising the possibility Patrick Bamford may see some action off the bench.
Injuries and illness deny Gareth Southgate of Phil Foden, Ben White and Dean Henderson. Ben Chilwell has been omitted from the squad due to his lack of games for Chelsea due to Marcos Alonso’s good form.
Jack Grealish and Bukayo Saka will compete for the final spot in the attacking third with Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane.
On Tuesday, Hungary lost defender Gergo Lovrencsics after the player damaged his ankle ligaments.
Dominik Szoboszlai is back for Hungary, while Adam Nagy is suspended. David Siger and Filip Helander are out and Loic Nego unavailable due to Covid.
