Keir Starmer brands Vladimir Putin’s missile strike on children’s cancer hospital ‘depraved’
Vladimir Putin was last night branded a genocidal maniac as the tyrant turned his missiles on the most defenceless of his war on Ukraine – children with cancer. The Russian president’s forces targeted a kids hospital in one of the biggest missile strikes in months. At least 36 people were killed, including a doctor, and 140 injured in attacks across the country, sparking global outrage. Terrified children at Kyiv’s Okhmadyt Hospital were reportedly heard crying for help from beneath the rubble, while heartbreaking images showed others with drips in their arms being led away in shock by rescuers. Some mothers carried their children away on their backs to air raid shelters.
Luke Shaw hits back at England fans over Gareth Southgate criticism – ‘We love him’
Defender Luke Shaw insisted the England squad “love” boss Gareth Southgate and are buoyed by seeing happy fans back home. The Manchester United star, 28, defended their much-criticised manager ahead of Wednesday night’s semi-final with the Netherlands. An estimated 40,000 England fans are expected to be in Dortmund for the match, though many have turned against Southgate, 53, over his tactics – despite the team’s success.
But Shaw said: “I don’t understand the criticism. What he’s done for the country, he’s taken us to the next level. It’s another semi-final. We’re in the semi-finals – that’s all that matters. As players we love him. He puts the players first and for that we are able to go out on the pitch and try to be at our best. He showed a lot of trust in picking me and I need to repay that. He’s exactly what we need.”
