PS5 new year trailer confirms Silent Hill 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 remake for 2024

There’s at least one live service game that Sony hasn’t cancelled yet, as a new trailer confirms Concord is part of the PS5 line-up for 2024.

Given how quiet they were during 2023, it’s difficult to know what to expect from Sony this year, in terms of if and when they might announce new first party games. The best guess is that they’ll continue as they have been, making most of their announcements via short blog posts and the occasional State of Play event.

For their first act of 2024 they’ve gone a step further by suddenly releasing a trailer out of nowhere, which confirms the release year of a number of third party games and the fact that live service game Concord has not been cancelled.

The video is below and according to Sony all of the games are currently scheduled for release this year. And while that may change over time that includes keenly anticipated remakes Silent Hill 2 and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

Most of the game featured do already have scheduled release dates, especially those due in the first few months of the year, but Concord is one of two multiplayer games that Sony announced last June, and which are widely assumed to be live service titles – although that has never been officially confirmed.

It still hasn’t been, as the trailer footage is the same as before and the only description on the PlayStation website page, created for the trailer, is that it’s ‘a brand new PVP multiplayer first-person shooter.’

Curiously, although there’s meant to be a link to further information on the main PlayStation website it doesn’t work and there is no mention of Concord anywhere else.

That speaks to the disarray that has characterised Sony’s live service plans since the start, and which most recently led to the cancellation of The Last Of Us Online.

Metal Gear Solid Delta is a multiformat release but Silent Hill 2 is a PlayStation 5 console exclusive and there had been concerns from fans that the game had been delayed or even cancelled.

Developer Bloober Team recently insisted this was not the case though and it’s likely they knew this trailer was coming.

It’s certainly a good line-up but Concord is the only internally developer Sony title and so far it’s not clear if there will be any more, after Spider-Man 2 turned out to be the only major release last year.
