The Sun – Princess meets cancer teen: Kate’s hug of love
The Sun leads on the image showing the Princess of Wales cuddling a teenage girl who is battling cancer, describing it as “Kate’s hug of love”.
The paper’s second headline is “Keir’s swift £6k payback”, referring to news that PM Starmer has paid back £6,000 “in freebies – including Taylor Swift gig tickets”. “But critics said it was only a tiny percentage of the £107,145 in gifts and hospitality he has received since 2019,” the Sun adds.
‘You’ve inspired me’, Kate hugs girl, 16, with rare tumour in first appearance since revealing she’s finished chemo
PRINCESS Kate hailed a teenage cancer sufferer for inspiring her and husband William with her strength and creativity.
The Prince of Wales, 42, invited photographer Liz Hatton, 16, to take pictures of an investiture he was hosting at Windsor Castle for sporting heroes.
Kate, 42, was seen warmly hugging Liz, who has a rare and aggressive form of cancer, while she and William also lined up for a snap with the teenager and her family.
They are the first photos of the Princess of Wales at work since she completed her own chemotherapy treatment.
The royals posted: “A pleasure to meet with Liz at Windsor today.
“A talented young photographer whose creativity and strength has inspired us both. Thank you for sharing your photos and story with us.”
Keir Starmer stumps up £6,000 to pay for freebies including Taylor Swift tickets – but that’s just 5% of £107k gifts
THE PM has paid for gifts worth more than £6,000 in a bid to salvage his reputation amid a growing scandal over freebies.
Sir Keir Starmer is covering the cost of Taylor Swift gig tickets, a day at the races and a clothing rental deal with a designer favoured by his wife.
It accounts for just five per cent of the £107,145 in gifts, benefits and hospitality he received since December 2019.
It is understood he did not demand ministers return their gifts, which fall within the rules, but wanted to send a signal “from the top”.
Sir Keir also pledged to revamp the ministerial code, making any gifts and hospitality transparent and accountable.
He said it was “right” he repaid, saying: “We came in as a government of change, we are going to bring forward principles for donations.”
Today’s news summary – Paper Talk
If you are someone who reads every perspective of a story, here is a news summary of all of today’s front pages from today’s newspapers; summarised in a 2-minute read
Editorial 03 October 2024.
Thursday’s front pages lead with two main stories – polar opposite stories. The ongoing crisis in the Middle East, as Israel has vowed to respond to Iran as fears of an all-out war continue to rise; and Princess Kate’s first public engagement since undergoing cancer treatment.
Most of the broadsheets lead on Israel’s vow to respond to the missile attack, and other stories related to the situation in the Middle East. The tabloids prefer the royal story.
