Prince Andrew made headlines last week after he was spotted attending an event with King Charles and Queen Camilla and one publication claimed he appeared to have been given a “royal pardon” and claimed he is slowly being “welcomed back” into the royal fold.
The Duke of York was pictured last Thursday driving his car along the Long Walk where he welcomed the new Dean of Windsor with the King and Queen at Windsor Castle.
He attended a reception at the Castle before the inauguration of Right Reverend Dr Christopher Cocksworth at St George’s Chapel.
It is understood Andrew attended the ceremony as a private individual and not in any official royal role.
Now royal historian Marlene Koenig says Prince Andrew will keep attending some royal events, and him going to church last week was “a good thing”.

She also suggested that Andrew’s latest appearance by no way means he’ll be given back any royal role as King Charles “is not going to pardon his brother” and “that door closed and is unlikely to be reopened.”
Koenig told Express.co.uk: “There is no such thing as a royal pardon to attend the installation of the new Dean of Windsor. This was a private invitation from his brother, the King. Andrew was not included in the Court Circular which reported that the King attended the event.”
She claimed Charles does not have the power to pardon his brother and Andrew has not been charged with a crime but he will keep attending royal events.
But she also stressed it’s a good thing he keeps going to church, claiming “what better place for a sinner to go”.

The royal historian said: “The King is not going to restore Andrew to working royal with all the perks and privileges. Andrew is not going to carry out official engagements, but he will – from time to time – be asked to join a private event, such as the installation of the new dean of Windsor.
“He did accompany the Royal family to church last Christmas Day at Sandringham – again, a church service. Just as this service was a church service. And being in church can be a good thing.”
Koenig went on to clarify that the duke has been attending family events, not public official events and he “will not be attending anything official”.
“That door closed and is unlikely to be reopened, ” she stated.

The Duke of York stepped down as a working member of the Royal Family in 2019 due to his association with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew had been accused of sleeping on three occasions with Virginia Giuffre – Giuffe sued Andrew in the US, claiming that she was under the age of consent in the US when she slept with him – he has vehemently and repeatedly denied her claims.
The royal historian added: “In the outside world, he remains a pariah. Charles is not going to welcome Andrew back to the royal fold but there’s nothing wrong with a brother joining another brother to a private event.
“Andrew may continue to deny Virginia’s claims but he did make a substantial payment to her which for many people means he was guilty. As for Church, what better place for a sinner to go?”
