Post Office scandal victims to be exonerated and compensated

The PM announced plans to introduce a new law aimed at quickly exonerating and compensating individuals wrongly convicted in the Horizon Post Office scandal.

During the first Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs) of the year, Rishi Sunak outlined his intention to secure parliamentary approval to exonerate those implicated in the Post Office scandal.

Sunak also revealed that individuals involved in the group litigation order against the Post Office would qualify for an upfront payment of £75,000.

The government has faced growing pressure to address the Horizon scandal, particularly after the recent airing of the ITV drama “Mr Bates Vs The Post Office.” Over 700 sub-postmasters and sub-postmistresses faced prosecution for accounting errors based on flawed Horizon software data.
