James Bourne has revealed that he was rushed to hospital after suffering a terrifying spider bite.

The Busted star was met with concern after revealing that he suffered from hypertension over the painful incident.

Taking to Instagram, the 40-year-old posted a photo of a black widow spider, as well as a squeamish image of his grim bite.

‘I’m finally recovered now (touch wood) from being bitten by a black widow spider,’ the Year 3000 singer began.

‘I did not know how serious my condition was until I was refused an IV drip at my local Next health because I was suffering hypertension with a blood pressure reading of 190 / 115 mmHg.

‘Apparently that’s quite serious. I ended up at the hospital later that night! Anyway, im still here, Alive and kicking! Cool story bro… [sic].’

According to the NHS, hypertension – also known as high blood pressure – can put ‘extra strain on your blood vessels, heart and other organs’.

Ideal blood pressure is usually considered to be between 90/60mmHg and 120/80mmHg, with James’ readings well above these figures.

Those who have been punctured by a black widow spider could experience pain and swelling within the first hour, the Evening Standard reports.

In the first eight hours, victims could suffer pains in their muscles, stomach and back, as well as nausea, vomiting and breathing difficulties.

Fans quickly shared their support for the musician in the comments below, urging him to get better soon.

‘Ouch! I’m glad you are on the mend…great story though! X,’ a follower said.

‘Can you shoot webs now? But in all seriousness glad your alright bud,’ a commenter penned.

An Instagram user wrote: ‘Omg glad you are ok. Might turn into Spider-Man now.’

‘Oh my god!! Glad you’re ok, get better soon,’ one replied.

As another added: ‘Bloody hell James!! Glad you’re on the mind! Get well soon x [sic].’

The bite caps off a rollercoaster 2023 for James, who got back on stage with his Busted bandmates, Charlie Simpson and Matt Willis.

The trio returned to the studio to re-record some of their best tracks to celebrate their 20-year anniversary, before embarking on a tour across the UK.

If that wasn’t enough, they also performed a surprise duet with Ed Sheeran during a gig in London – who thanked the What I Go To School For singers for encouraging fans to get into music.

‘London, before I go can I just say these guys were the reason that so many people of my age and my generation picked up a guitar and I don’t think they get enough credit for it,’ he told the crowd.

‘Please give a round of applause for these absolute legends. Thank you so much for having me!’

Hopefully we’ll have more music in 2024 – after James heals up…
