‘Trump is a Clown’ says Iranian Supreme leader

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said President Donald Trump is a “clown” who only pretends to support the Iranian people, referring to the US President’s comical twitter messages in Farsi, and will “push a poisonous dagger” into their backs, in his Friday sermon.

In his first sermon in eight years the Supreme leader responded to the recent missile attack on U.S. troops in Iraq led to “American humiliation,” and said “They stealthily and cowardly assassinated General Soleimani in a terrorist fashion. This resulted in a disgrace for America.”

The Ayatollah was addressing huge crowds that had gathered in Tehran’s Mosalla Mosque to hear the idolised leader speak before Friday prayers warning them not to fall for his tricks as ‘Trump is a clown’ who will betray Iranians

The US has weakened the battle against ISIS

In a speech which covered many topics, he went on to say the mass funeral for Iran’s assassinated General Soleimani, who was killed in a US airstrike earlier this month, shows that the Iranian people support the Islamic Republic despite its recent trials. He said the “cowardly” killing of Gen. Soleimani had taken out the most effective commander in the battle against the Islamic State group.

General Soleimani was killed when a U.S. drone targeted his motorcade in Baghdad on Jan. 3. Less than a week later, Iran launched a barrage of ballistic missiles targeting U.S. troops in Iraq and according to the Iranians killing approximately 80 soldiers. The US has denied any deaths.

Thousands gathered in Tehran to hear the Supreme leader speak, for the first time in eight years.

Khamenei called the shootdown of the plane a “bitter accident” that saddened Iran as much as it made its enemies happy. He said Iran’s enemies had seized on the crash to question the Islamic Republic, the Revolutionary Guard and the armed forces.

A Death Blow to the US

Khamenei said the strike had dealt a “blow to America’s image” as a superpower who is led by ‘Trump is a Clown’. He said the “real punishment” would be in forcing the U.S. to withdraw from the Middle East.

Wrapped up against the cold, some carried pictures of the supreme leader while others held aloft placards demanding the U.S. “Pack up and get lost.” The crowds quickly filled the inner hall of the mosque several thousands gathered on the streets.

He also lashed out at Western countries, saying they are too weak to “bring Iranians to their knees.” He said Britain, France and Germany, which this week triggered a dispute mechanism to try and bring Iran back into compliance with the unravelling 2015 nuclear agreement, were “contemptible” governments and “servants” of the United States.

The UK Treasurer’s Office of Sanctions Implementation (OFSI) has designated Hezbollah as a terrorist organisation. The UK government approved the measure following a heated conflict between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran

He said Iran was willing to negotiate, but not with the United States. In part, some of the sermons was delivered in Arabic as a message to Irans Arabic neighbours and the ‘US proxy’s’ Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

A small number of students and middle-class Iranians took to the streets in protest. In Tehran, some students refused to trample on paintings of U.S. and Israeli flags in an apparent rejection of the government’s attempts to deflect blame.

Prior to the assassinations, US forces launched retaliatory strikes on Hezbollah forces in Iraq and Syria, killing dozens of fighters, leading to protests outside the US embassy in Baghdad on 31 December.
