A murder inquiry has been launched following the death of a 32-year-old woman, police have confirmed.

Officers were called to a property on Anderson Drive in Elgin, Moray, at around 7.20pm on Thursday.

Emergency services attended, and a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

After a post-mortem examination took place, her death is being treated as murder and detectives are making extensive enquiries to establish the circumstances.

Formal identification is yet to take place.

Officers from Police Scotland’s major investigation team are leading the investigation, and are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Superintendent Lorna Ferguson said: ‘Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends at this very difficult time, and our specially trained officers will continue to support them as our enquiries continue.

‘It’s imperative we find out exactly what happened to her and we have a dedicated team of officers working on this investigation.

‘I would like to reassure the local community that everything is being done to trace the person responsible and extensive enquiries remain ongoing.

‘I am appealing to the public for help. I’m urging anyone who was in the area between 4.30pm on Wednesday November 15 and 7.20pm on Thursday November 16 and saw anything they believe may assist our investigation to get in touch.

‘It may seem small or insignificant but it could be vital to help us establish what happened to and give family the answers they deserve.

‘We are also keen to speak to anyone who has dash cam footage, private CCTV or doorbell footage.

‘There will be an increased police presence in the local area while we carry out extensive enquiries. Anyone with information or concerns can also speak to these officers.’

Police Scotland can be contacted via 101, quoting reference 3250 of Thursday November 16 2023.

Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
