Trending – UK riots: Police brace for more disorder as criminals face court
The country – as reflected in the headlines – is bracing for more disorder across UK towns and cities today after a list of places set to be targetted today circulated online. Many of the flashpoints are immigration centres – there could be as many as 100 protests planned for today, which could lead to significant rioting and violence.
The shameful scenes across England have left families afraid to leave their homes as buildings and cars have been set on fire, police officers attacked and shops looted. There has been protesting – and counter-protesting – and much of it has seen violence.
It comes a week after three children were murdered. The suspect was born in Wales to Nigerian parents. He has no known links to Islam and is believed to be from a Christian background. Misinformation spread fast online, with reports saying he was an illegal immigrant and a Muslim – leading to riots and attacks on Muslim communities.
The papers reflect the operation police will face today – as well as those who have already started to be convicted for their role in the violence and looting. The far-right thugs are facing terrorism charges and time behind bars. There is also further coverage of Elon Musk – the American billionaire has been accused of fanning the flames of division in the UK as he continues to regularly tweet misinformation and seemingly is enjoying the chaos sweeping England and Northern Ireland.
