P&O offers £36,000,000 ‘blackmail’ to workers it sacked without warning
The Metro says P&O Ferries says it is offering more than £36 million in compensation to sacked staff, with 40 employees in line for payments of more than £100,000.
It comes after the company caused outrage last week after nearly 800 employees were sacked on the spot and replaced by cheaper agency workers.
The Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT), which represented many of the staff fired without notice, said their replacements are being paid as little as £1.81 per hour.
The firm announced the settlement is worth a total of £36,541,648, with no worker set to receive less than £15,000.
