PM handed Tory lifeline despite furious backlash ahead of major speech
Daily Express says BORIS JOHNSON has been handed a major lifeline in his fight with Partygate, despite his own MPs letting Labour’s motion go unopposed.
Members of Parliament refused to vote against Sir Keir Starmer’s plan and so the whips let his motion go unopposed. This has left the Prime Minister in limbo, but is a move that may save him as he is now leading a party that will neither back him nor sack him, according to the Telgraph’s Fraser Nelson. Out of 358 Tory MPs, just nine have called on him to quit.
Mr Nelson says the war in Ukraine has been another saviour and lifeline for Mr Johnson as he has been able to somewhat show that he can be a world-leading figurehead. The Prime Minister apologised “unreservedly” for the partygate scandal and confirmed he had “already taken significant steps” to change the way things work in the Government. Mr Johnson will deliver a major speech at 4pm today in which he expected to be questioned on his response to the Parliamentary investigation.
