Pep Guardiola has suggested tweaking Premier League rules over the offside law after Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson was forced off with injury.
The Brazilian, City’s No.1 goalkeeper, had to be replaced by Stefan Ortega after just eight minutes as Guardiola’s side beat Newcastle United 3-2 on Saturday.
Ederson was hurt during Sean Longstaff’s disallowed goal as he took an accidental blow from his own captain Kyle Walker.
Guardiola was left frustrated that the flag stayed down despite Alexander Isak being ahead of the last man in the build-up, because if play was stopped when the offside occurred, Ederson would not have picked up the injury.
‘Teams like Spurs or Liverpool or Aston Villa or ourselves, we play high line,’ Guardiola told the BBC after his team won at St James’ Park.
‘There were three players offside, so you have to avoid that. They should review it.
‘[Ederson has a] big knock on the knee but now we have 10 days off.’

Meanwhile, Guardiola has hailed matchwinner Kevin De Bruyne, who came off the bench and registered a goal and assist to complete City’s comeback.
‘I am a little bit upset and grumpy with him because he didn’t score from the free-kick!’ Guardiola added. ‘When opponents are more tired, Kevin and Oscar [Bobb] provide another pace at the end.
‘When Kevin has the ball and we have runners, Kevin is unique in the world but the finish by Oscar, I am so, so happy for him.’

‘They should review it!’
