Pep Guardiola confirms double Man City injury blow after controversial winner

Pep Guardiola has confirmed a double injury blow after Manchester City scored a controversial late winner in Sunday’s 2-1 victory at Wolves.

Jørgen Strand Larsen stunned the Premier League champions when he fired Gary O’Neil’s side ahead with just seven minutes on the clock at Molineux.

Joško Gvardiol levelled things up for City and the match was heading for a draw before John Stones’ dramatic 95th-minute winner.

It’s a huge result for City after title rivals Arsenal slipped up at AFC Bournemouth on Saturday but it’s not all good news for Guardiola’s men.

That’s because they have two players ruled out ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Sparta Prague.

After the 2-1 win over Wolves, Guardiola was asked about key duo Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne and said: ‘I don’t think they will be ready [for midweek].

‘We have a few days training but I don’t think so.’

Guardiola was also quizzed about Stones’ late winner, which was controversially given after a VAR check.

Bernardo Silva was stood in front of Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa before Stones headed in and he was initially adjudged to be offside by referee Chris Kavanagh.

VAR Stuart Attwell disagreed, though, because Silva moved before Stones connected with the ball, and the goal was eventually allowed to stand.

‘At the moment the linesman, raised the flag, I said, ‘It’s a corner, how can it be offside?’ – the situation, at the moment of the impact from John, Sa is watching perfectly the actions so it’s well given,’ Guardiola said.

The City boss also drew comparisons to former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp following his team’s late winner.

‘We are not used to winning games at the end,’ Guardiola told the BBC. ‘Like Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, it happened many times. It is a good flavour for us.’
