The Justice Department has announced federal charges for the man arrested after breaking into House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s home and assaulting her husband with a hammer.
David DePape, 42, was charged with assault and attempted kidnapping of a United States official, according to a criminal complaint and affidavit filed in a district court in California.
The charges carry with them a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.

DePape was arrested early on Friday morning after police responded to a 911 call placed by Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi.
Arresting officers said DePape was yelling ‘where’s Nancy? Where’s Nancy?’ while he assaulted Paul with a hammer.
