Paul Merson has offered his thoughts on Chelsea’s summer move for Manchester City star Cole Palmer.
The Blues have agreed a deal with Premier League champions City to sign the 21-year-old versatile attacker and will pay around £40-£45m for his services.
Palmer has made 41 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side and has scored two goals in three appearances this season – in the Super Cup and Community Shield.
The England U21 international is keen on the move to Stamford Bridge and assuming he passes his medical, he will be unveiled as a Chelsea player.
Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino was keen to bring in a new attacking option ahead of Friday’s summer transfer window deadline amid several injuries to key players.
Merson has now shared his opinion on Chelsea’s deal for Palmer as he said on Sky Sports: ‘I think he is a good player.
‘I thought after the Community Shield, I thought he would get a little bit more time at Man City, the way he came on and scored the goal.

‘Yeah, a bit shocked, if I am being honest, a bit shocked, but good signing, good player. He has got a goal about him.
‘He’s not so much of a dribbler but he can find that pass and he can score a goal. It’s a good signing.
‘I’m pretty shocked, but it just shows you at the moment that Man City don’t think that Chelsea are that much of a threat to them.’
