Overwatch 2 – the fans hate it the most (pic: Blizzard)
Although it’s been relatively successful the first appearance of Overwatch 2 on Steam has resulted in overwhelmingly negative reviews.
You have to wonder about the communities behind some online titles, who seem to spend their entire time furiously upset with the games. Call Of Duty is one obvious example but Overwatch 2 also has some very angry fans, who have ensured that the reviews for the game on Steam are already classified as ‘overwhelmingly negative.’
The game was only released on Steam at 7.30pm on Thursday evening and yet by lunchtime on Friday it already had over 35,000 negative reviews.
There’s no way that many people could have been that unsatisfied in such a short period of time, which means the majority must have coordinated with each other to ensure a mass review bombing.
No major technical faults have been reported and reading the reviews it’s clear that they’re complaining about issues that have been around for a long time, suggesting they all had their complaints ready to go before ever playing it on Steam.
To be fair, Valve cancelling plans for its PvE Hero missions – which was supposed to be the main point of the sequel – was very disappointing, with fans also upset about the game’s new free-to-play set-up.
Overwatch 2 does seem to have been relatively successful, with a peak of 74,545 concurrent players putting it at number 12 in the Steam charts – just below Team Fortress 2 but one place ahead of Call Of Duty (Baldur’s Gate 3 is still at number three).

Nevertheless, the reviews are scathing. ‘The people who make Overwatch porn work harder than the people who make Overwatch,’ reads one negative review.
‘Overwatch 2 has no respect for you, it’s an attempt to pry open your wallet while masquerading as the game it used to be,’ reads another.
‘They released Overwatch 2 as a free-to-play business model, which leans more heavily into microtransactions, overpriced skins, and predatory behaviour,’ says another, more detailed, review.
‘To make matters worse, they shut down the first game, making it unplayable for people who purchased it, meaning the playerbase has to move over to this free-to-play business model to keep playing the game.’
