With Starfield’s release date getting closer every day, older players are itching to spend their retirement living it up in the game.
Starfield, the highly anticipated space exploration game by Bethesda, is gearing up for a September release, exclusively on Xbox Series X/S and PC (sorry, PlayStation folks).
Although there have been virtually no hands-on reports, it’s set to offer a massive universe for you to explore alongside your trusty in-game companions, featuring a line-up of over 1,000 planets.
The game has generated a ton of hype and has even managed to attract an unexpected fanbase: retirees.
A post by an older player known as Jpcox3981 on the Starfield subreddit quickly gained attention as they asked if there were any other ‘old farts’ eagerly anticipating the game’s launch.
This 71-year-old retiree reminisced about their earliest memory linked to space exploration, recounting how their third grade teacher brought in a radio and played the broadcast of Alan Shepard’s first US manned flight to the entire class.
This heartfelt story inspired fellow retirees to eagerly share their own nostalgic recollections of all things related to space, as well as their enthusiasm for Starfield’s release.
‘Just turned 60 a month ago and I can’t wait. I even bought the Starfield controller,’ a fellow Redditor said.
‘Gen-Xer here too. So stoked for Starfield! My lived experience of space was the space shuttles (even build a model) and the Voyager missions,’ another older gamer commented.
Another 67-year-old gamer proudly announced they will be jumping in the game during its early access period, kicking off September 1, meaning that they have purchased one of Starfield’s expensive premium editions.
There was even a younger commenter who said that they would be sharing their Starfield experience with their equally hyped-up 58-year-old mum when the game is released.

The poster revealed that their mum is a more avid gamer than they are and often keeps them informed about the latest gaming news.
According to a recent survey, older gamers are actually clocking more gaming hours than teens, in part because they have more spare time.
That could be part of the reason why single-player games have come back in vogue recently, something which many younger gamers will be grateful for too.
Starfield will launch for Xbox Series X/S and PC on September 6.
