    NTAs winner Lee Mack responds to causing ‘offence’ even though no one actually called for him to be cancelled

    Lee Mack has responded to viewers who might be offended by jokes that he makes after his big win at the National Television Awards (NTAs).

    On Tuesday evening, the comedian was among the winners at the awards ceremony, taking home the prize for best quiz show for his ITV game show The 1% Club.

    While many people watching expressed how entertaining they found his speech when he went up on stage, one claimed that a remark that he made would result in him being ‘cancelled’ – even though no one actually called for that to happen.

    After the 55-year-old received his award from former Lioness and I’m A Celebrity winner Jill Scott, he quipped: ‘To receive a sex toy like this off Jill Scott is an absolute pleasure.’

    Among the messages of congratulations on X (formerly Twitter), one person wrote: ‘Well lee mack is gonna get cancelled now.’

    However, another comment read: ‘The 1% Club winning as it should. Brilliant format and it means that we get to have Lee Mack on stage for a couple of mins. Perfect.’

    Speaking about his award win in an interview, Lee explained his approach when people are offended by what he has to say.

    ‘My job as a stand-up comedian is to take the mickey out of the contestants,’ he told The Sun.

    ‘I decided never to be too cheesy with it. I just wanted to try to have a bit of a laugh.’

    He compared being a TV presenter to doing a stand-up gig, recalling how some of his early performances at the Edinburgh Fringe festival often consisted of just 100 people in the audience.

    ‘It’s quite an intimate laugh and the one thing is the audience really can take it, you can take the mickey out of them,’ he stated.

    ‘It’s the people who are watching who get offended, not the audience. They’re always OK about it.’

    One person who watched the NTAs put out a call for Lee to present the ceremony next year, as they found him so amusing to watch.

    Another stressed: ‘Literally no one is calling for Lee Mack to be cancelled.’
