Noah Schnapp has admitted he had an ‘influx’ of people sliding into his DMs after he came out as gay – including some ‘big names’.
The Stranger Things actor confirmed he was gay in a video shared with fans on TikTok back in January, as he lay on the floor in a grey hoody and referenced his character Will Byers’ own sexuality, writing: ‘I guess I’m more similar to Will than I thought.’
Will’s sexuality was revealed in the latest season of the Netflix sci-fi show, which touched on his crush for best friend Mike (Finn Wolfhard) as well as feelings of unrequited love.
Reflecting on his own situation, the 18-year-old actor explained while he’s open to a relationship, he’s not ‘actively’ looking for a partner.
He told Variety: ‘I’m just enjoying life, and if someone comes by, then sure — but I’m not actively trying to find a match… all of a sudden, there was this influx of all these people in my DMs.
‘And definitely some, like, big names that I didn’t know about. I just take it as a compliment and move on.’

After coming out on TikTok, Noah avoided checking his phone, and instead wanted to embrace the knowledge that he was being is true self.
‘I didn’t want to sit there waiting nervously to see what people were going to say. I just wanted to put it away and be confident in who I am, and know that I don’t have to care what people think anymore,’ he said.
When he did eventually check his phone, he was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from his followers.

‘When I opened my phone… it was, like, a thousand texts of hearts and congratulations and rainbow flags. I was crying. I was like, “I made it. I’m done. I don’t have to worry,”‘ he added, while noting the relief over the reaction of his loved ones.
He recalled: ‘When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared in the closet for 18 years and all they said was “we know.” ‘
