NHS medic designs ‘smart’ A&E which could influence Government plans for new hospitals
The i says a senior NHS doctor working in A&E during the pandemic is among those shortlisted for the £250,000 Wolfson Economics Prize 2021, which this year seeks planning and design ideas that will “radically improve” hospitals for patients and staff.
Dr Susan Robinson, a consultant in emergency medicine at Cambridge University Hospitals, co-authored one of the five shortlisted entries in her spare time during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The entry, The Smart ED, proposes several ideas to reduce crowding in emergency departments – including first-class airline-style pods, below, for patients with less serious conditions.
