Today’s news summary – Paper Talk

Wednesday’s papers are not a positive read for the prime minister. There is ridicule from many over his continued insistence that he was unaware he was breaking rules during a No 10 party during the first lockdown.

A picture of the prime minister, looking a little teary-eyed, from an interview yesterday where he continued his absurd claims he was unaware he was breaking the rules, is splashed on most papers.

    …….

The Daily Mirror focuses on the “pork pie plot” to oust Boris Johnson, which got its name because the MP for Melton Mowbray (home of the pork pie) is alleged to have been involved.

The Daily Express’s top story is on Tory MPs plotting to oust Boris Johnson after he apologised ten times for parties held at Downing Street.

The Sun has an exclusive on Strictly dancer Nadiya Bychkova breaking up with her footballer fiance.

Tory MPs have told The Guardian they believe there will be enough no confidence letters to trigger a leadership contest after the publication of Sue Gray’s report into allegations of lockdown breaches.

Metro quotes Boris Johnson saying no one warned him that the “bring your own booze” party in Downing Street’s garden would break lockdown rules and should not go ahead.

The Independent joins a number of papers in reporting on the PM’s claims that no one warned him the No 10 party during lockdown was against the rules – despite him setting the rules.
