Today’s news summary – Paper Talk

Most of Tuesday’s front pages feature the same picture of Prime Minister Boris Johnson.  The PM is seen holding his birthday cake during a visit to a school in Hertfordshire on 19 June 2020. The picture was taken hours ahead of another gathering at No 10 to celebrate the PM’s birthday, which featured another cake.

Claims that Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s wife threw him a surprise birthday in lockdown also make the front page of the Daily Mirror.

No 10 has admitted Boris Johnson had an indoor birthday celebration at the height of the first lockdown, according to The Sun.

Boris Johnson has warned Russia’s President Vladimir Putin that invading Ukraine will lead to a “painful, violent and bloody” war, reports the Daily Express.

An imam appointed by the government to draw up a definition of Islamophobia has said he received no “meaningful engagement” from ministers, reports The Independent.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is facing renewed anger from MPs and bereaved families after it emerged that Carrie Johnson had thrown him a surprise birthday party during lockdown, writes The Guardian.

Metro also leads with the story that NATO has ordered warplanes and battleships to eastern Europe.
