    Daily Express – Zero UK Covid-19 deaths

    The Daily Express leads with the news there has been zero covid-19 deaths recorded in the UK for the first time since the pandemic began. The front page also features a picture of a beach and the paper celebrates the return of the warmer weather and an image of the mother and son who were stabbed to death makes the front page.

    Zero UK Covid-19 deaths for the first time since pandemic began

    The Daily Express’s front page, like many others, leads with the news there have been zero recorded daily Covid deaths for the first time since March – when the pandemic began.

    Sharing the front page is the news of the stabbing death of a mother and her young son. 

    A picture of a Dorset beach is also featured on the front page, as the paper celebrates the return of the sunshine.

    The Express says Jason Leitch, Scotland’s national clinical director, has issued a warning regarding Covid levels, saying the virus is “causing us some challenge”. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has announced plans to postpone restrictions easing.

    The Express says Robert Hogan, perhaps best known for his appearances in Peyton Place, The Wire and Batman, has died aged 87 from complications with pneumonia after an eight-year battle with Alzheimer’s.

    Travellers set up camp at Windsor in full view of Queen Elizabeth II’s private quarters

    The Express says up to 30 caravans and motorhomes were parked on the Long Walk of Windsor and are in full view of Her Majesty’s private residence. The Long Walk is a 2.6 mile track that connects Windsor Castle with Snow Hill in Windsor Great park. It is popular with tourists and is used by royal carriages as they make their way to Ascot for the races.

    Channel crossings: Housing delays for migrants spark fears of ‘mob unrest’

    The Express says after record numbers of channel crossings this year, Border Force union has warned they are being “overwhelmed”. On Friday, 336 illegal migrants arrived in 19 boats, marking a record high this year.

    Melbourne lockdown: Australia extends restrictions amid concern over rise in Covid cases

    The Express says Victoria’s acting Premier James Merlino announced the lockdown extension in a statement. He described the situation as “something even more serious” after the state reported 60 local cases and more than 350 exposure sites.

    Queen Elizabeth II ‘to much miss Prince Philip’ as she marks coronation anniversary alone

    The Express says Queen Elizabeth II, 95, is the longest-reigning monarch in British history and has worn the crown for an extraordinary 69 years. While the Queen came to the throne upon her father King George VI’s death on February 6 1952, her coronation did not take place until more June 2, 1953. The spectacular ceremony took months of planning and was the first of its kind to be broadcast on national television.
