Culture secretary calls for changes at BBC after Princess Diana Martin Bashir scandal

The Times says the culture secretary has accused the BBC of having a “we know best attitude” following the Martin Bashir scandal.

Writing in the paper, Oliver Dowden says the BBC is guilty of “groupthink” and needs to “project British values” if it is to survive competition from the likes of Netflix and Amazon.

    Parents oppose longer school days

The paper says parents are against plans to increase the length of the school day to help kids catch up with work lost over the pandemic.

The paper writes a YouGov poll that says 60 per cent of parents oppose extending the school hours, whilst 30 per cent agree.

Anger after Ryanair flight ‘hijacked’ by Lukashenko

The paper reports Britain said the dictator of Belarus faces ‘serious consequences’ after he scrambled a jet to force a Ryanair plane to emergency land, after making false bomb threats.

The forced diversion and landing of the plane were so authorities could arrest a Belarusian activist who was on the EU internal flight. The activist could face the death sentence, according to the Times.

    Headlines from the Times online.

Princess Latifa ‘free’ as lawyers target Dubai Sheikh

The Times says the British government has been asked to impose sanctions on the ruler of Dubai for the abduction of his daughter, who the paper says appear to have been freed from her “villa jail.”

The article shows pictures of Princess Latifa, which the article says were released more than three years after she was seized from a yacht while trying to escape the emirate.

Martin Bashir’s ex-employers urged to look into other celebrity scoops

The Times says the BBC and ITV have been urged to look into how Martin Bashir landed his other big celebrity interviews after the damning report into how he deceived Diana, Princess of Wales.

The family of pop star Michael Jackson has demanded an apology for his ITV interview with Bashir and the ex-wife of George Best claimed Bashir exploited him.
