Newcastle United have been eliminated from the Champions League after losing to AC Milan in frantic conclusion to Group F.
Paris Saint-Germain join group winners Borussia Dortmund in reaching the round of 16 stage after a 1-1 draw between the two sides in Germany.
Eddie Howe’s side suffered a 2-1 defeat at St James Park with AC Milan coming from behind to seal the win.
The result also sees the Serie A side finish third in the group ahead of Newcastle who finish bottom, failing to qualify for the Europa League in the process.
Newcastle looked to be going through at one stage with Joelinton scoring a superb opener after 33 minutes to lift the roof of St James’ Park.
In the group’s other fixture, a goal for Dortmund from Karim Adeyemi looked to be sending PSG out only for Warren Zaïre-Emery to drill one home early in the second-half to level the contest.
Newcastle needed to better PSG’s result to join Arsenal and Manchester City in the knock-out phase but were hauled back in their own game when former Chelsea star Christian Pulisic levelled for Milan.
Chasing a goal that would secure them third place, Samuel Chukwueze curled home brilliantly on the counter to give the visitors the lead after 84 minutes to end and effectively end Newcastle’s hopes.
A thrilling conclusion…
