Clashes were filmed and shared on social media
Newcastle United fans have clashed with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) supporters ahead of their Champions League showdown this evening.
Violence broke out in the French capital on Monday evening after ultras found where English fans were gathering ahead of the match.
Footage shared on social media shows Newcastle fans trying to blockade doors as flares and chairs were thrown through windows.
It appeared travelling Newcastle fans were trying to stop PSG supporters storming a bar they were in.
Glasses were smashed and windows were broken as tensions escalated, with groups of people in hooded jackets accused of roaming the streets looking for Newcastle fans.
The Newcastle United Supporters’ Club said: ‘Stay safe in Paris tonight. Stick together and look after each other.’
In an attempt to curb violence ahead of tonight’s match, police previously said the pubs designated for away fans should close early to reduce the risk of clashes, MailOnline reports.
Concerns were raised after PSG fans were involved in incidents in the UK, following the first match between the two clubs which Newcastle won 4-1.
