Newcastle United are confident of signing Kieran Tierney from Arsenal this summer in a deal that is expected to cost around £30m.
While Arsenal are challenging for a long-awaited Premier League title, Tierney has endured a frustrating season on a personal level, starting just five league games.
The Gunners spent £25m to sign Tierney from Scottish champions Celtic in 2019 and the 25-year-old made a promising start to his career in north London.
But Tierney’s game-time has suffered following Oleksandr Zinchenko’s move from Manchester City last summer and the Scot is believed to be weighing up his future at the Emirates.
Newcastle have been linked with Tierney before but The Sun say there is now a feeling at St James’ Park that they will welcome the full-back to the club this summer.
Eddie Howe, who will be keen to bolster his Newcastle squad following a brilliant season, has relied on natural centre-back Dan Burn at left-back for much of the campaign.
Burn has exceeded expectations for his boyhood club but Howe is expected to sign a new left-back this summer as he plans for Newcastle’s potential return to the Champions League.

The Magpies have climbed to fourth in the Premier League this season and will look to boost their Champions League dream on Sunday when top-four rivals Tottenham visit St James’ Park.
Even if Tierney ends up joining Newcastle, Burn will likely have a future at the club as Howe has repeatedly heaped praise on the towering defender.
‘I’m surprised if Dan’s getting criticised because that’s a severe underestimation of what he brings to the team,’ he said recently.

‘He has been incredible. We didn’t plan the season with him at left-back – it happened through injuries and he got an opportunity.
‘He’s a slightly unusual presence there but his attitude and application have been the highest level.
‘Sometimes you can’t measure what he gives. We value Dan very highly in whatever position he plays and his versatility is important as well.’
