New Zealand: Four injured in axe attacks at Chinese restaurants
A Chinese national has allegedly attacked diners with an axe at multiple Chinese restaurants in Auckland, New Zealand, leaving four people injured.
Video footage shows people fleeing from one of the restaurants as witnesses say the man attacked diners at around 21:00 local time on Monday. Three individuals remain in hospital in stable conditions, police have said.
According to reports, the assailant wielded various other weapons, including a “hammer-like thing.”
A man has been arrested but his identity and age have been withheld.
No motive has been disclosed but authorities say they do not believe the attack was driven by racial motives and is being treated as an isolated incident.
Police expect more charges to be brought against the suspect.
