Dozens of flood alerts are in effect across England and Wales and new warnings for rain and snow have been issued following snowfall across the UK.
The Met Office has warned we could be in for a ‘rapid thaw’ after vast amounts of snow fell over the weekend, closing runways at several UK airports.
But a new amber warning for snow has been put in place until 6am on Monday, covering parts of the north west of England, with up to 15cm forecast on higher ground.
As much as 12cm of snow fell in some areas on Saturday night, with the coldest temperature recorded -11°C at Loch Glascarnoch in Scotland.
Looking forward to the new week, the majority of Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England are covered by snow and ice warnings set to last until around midday.
New yellow weather warnings for rain have also been issued, covering most of Wales, central and western England, and most of the south west and south east of England.
The Met Office warned: ‘Further heavy rainfall may lead to some transport disruption in places.’
