Jeremy Jacquet suffers serious shoulder injury during Rennes match
Liverpool’s new signing, Jeremy Jacquet, has sustained a ‘serious’ shoulder injury while playing for Stade Rennais FC. The injury occurred in the second half of Rennes’ 3-1 defeat away to RC Lens in Ligue 1 on Saturday night, raising concerns about the player’s fitness.
Jacquet, who recently joined Liverpool for £60 million, appeared to be in significant pain as he was escorted down the tunnel by a member of Rennes’ backroom staff. Rennes head coach Habib Beye confirmed the injury in a post-match interview, stating, “For Jeremy, it’s his shoulder, and for Abdelhamid [Ait Boudlal] it’s muscular. We’ll have time to see, but it’s definitely quite serious for both of them.”
Liverpool signs Jacquet for £60 million
Initially agreed on July 1, Liverpool secured Jeremy Jacquet for £55 million plus £5 million in add-ons. The 20-year-old France Under-21 international has committed to a five-year contract, which includes an option for an additional year.
Speaking on the club’s decision to sign Jacquet, Liverpool manager Arne Slot remarked, “Very pleasing, of course. He’s a very big talent and maybe even more than a talent, but we speak about talent because of his age. We weren’t the only one interested in him. It’s another big compliment to the people working really hard to sign players because we were able to sign such a big talent.”
Next steps for Rennes and Liverpool
As the situation develops, Rennes will assess Jacquet’s injury further, while Liverpool awaits updates regarding their new player’s recovery timeline.
