The much anticapted new coin’s design has been revealed
Coin collectors should start double-checking their change as brand new 50 pence pieces will enter circulation today.
The Royal Mint announced the brand new coins, marking the King’s coronation, will give people the opportunity to ‘find a piece of history’.
Five million of the coins are set to be delivered to the Post Office and UK bank branches.
New 50p coins marking King’s coronation
They’re the second 50p coins to enter circulation bearing King Charles’s official portrait. The first were memorial coins released last December, marking the transition from the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The ‘tails’ side of the coin, designed by Royal Mint designer Natasha Jenkins, shows Westminster Abbey with the King’s official cypher at the centre, representing his crowning.
The ‘heads’ side features his official coin portrait.
All new 50ps entering circulation will feature the King’s uncrowned portrait, differing from the commemorative coronation coins revealed earlier this year.
Rebecca Morgan, form the Mint, said: ‘We are delighted to announce that five million 50p coins produced to mark His Majesty King Charles III’s coronation will enter circulation from today.

‘This is a special moment for the nation, as members of the public will have the opportunity to find a piece of history in their change.
‘We anticipate the coronation 50p coins will be highly sought after among coin collectors and members of the public keen to own a piece of British history.
‘The Royal Mint has had the honour of striking coins for every British monarch since Alfred the Great and we are proud to continue that long history with the introduction of His Majesty’s official coinage.’
Coins bearing the effigy of the late Queen will remain legal tender and in active circulation.
