The Night Agent was Netflix’s most watched show at the start of 2023, and fans are now urging everyone who hasn’t seen it yet to watch immediately.
The thriller series, which stars Gabriel Basso and Luciane Buchanan, was revealed as the streaming giant’s major success story in their latest viewing figures which cover January to June.
A staggering 812 million hours were consumed of the first series between its release March 23 and the end of June.
That’s a lot of eyes and time on the couch, and the popularity naturally makes perfect sense to those who’ve enjoyed the 10 episodes.
Fans of the show, which is Netflix’s sixth-most-viewed series of all time, have been singing its praises on social media for a long time.
‘The night agent on netflix 10/10,’ shared user PrettyBlushh on X, formerly Twitter.

User SwiftAlways99 added: ‘The Night Agent is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a while. 10/10 recommend!!!’
We may not have got series two yet, which was confirmed in March, but AJ Kerbel is amongst those already thinking ahead: ‘The Night Agent keeps getting better with each passing episode and season. I really hope this show is getting renewed for a third season.’
If you haven’t seen it, or haven’t heard it then don’t worry you’ve not been living under the rock alone. You’ve got plenty of company.

‘Literally never heard of The Night Agent,’ said user Joe Weisenthal in reaction to the news with the tweet reaching over 30k people.
Without spoiling too much for those of you who don’t fall into the 812 million group, the series follows FBI Agent Peter Sutherland [Gabriel], who finds himself into a vast conspiracy about a mole at the United States government.
In order to save the nation, he must find the traitor, while also protecting former tech CEO Rose Larkin [Luciane] from the bad people who murdered her family members.

Making up the top three of Netflix series was Ginny and Georgia’s second season with 665 million hours, and The Glory’s first season with 622 million.

The rest of the top ten was comprised of Wednesday season one (507 million), Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (503 million), You season four (440 million), La Reina del Sur season three (403 million), Outer Banks season three (403 million), Ginny and Georgia season one (302 million), and Fubar season one (266 million).
Another notable series was Harry & Meghan, which racked up 62 million hours in the first six months, which is impressive considering it was originally aired in December. They were trumped by themselves though as the first series of Suits, which starred Meghan Markle as Rachel Zane, reached 129 million hours.
Despite originally airing 23 years ago, Gilmore Girls’ first series had 82 million viewing hours.

Other notable popular shows include Emily in Paris season three (161 million hours), Black Mirror season 6 (140 million hours) and Sex/Life season 2 (175 million hours).
It wasn’t just series that were included in the 4000-strong list, Netflix also revealed how the movies fared with You People (181 million hours) starring Jonah Hill and Lauren London, and The Mother which had Jennifer Lopez in the titular role (250 million hours) proving to be the biggest successes.
If you’re behind on any of the above then these cold winter nights are the perfect time to play catch-up before the next list is released. Go, go, go.

Netflix did urge viewers not to judge any title too harshly purely based on their numbers.
‘Success on Netflix comes in all shapes and sizes, and is not determined by hours viewed alone. We have enormously successful movies and TV shows with both lower and higher hours viewed,’ they wrote.
‘It’s all about whether a movie or TV show thrilled its audience — and the size of that audience relative to the economics of the title.’
The Night Agent is available to stream on Netflix.
