Netanyahu vows response for missile attack saying Iran will “pay”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Iran will “pay” after around 180 missiles were fired at Israel, from Iran, on Tuesday.

Most of the missiles were intercepted by the US and Israel. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the missile attack was a “decisive” response in defending Iranian interests against “aggressive acts”. Israel had recently killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and unleashed a series of deadly communication device explosions.

On Tuesday, Israel launched a ground invasion of Lebanon and continued airstrikes on Beirut overnight.

Hezbollah says it repelled an Israeli ground attack in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, and it has continued firing rockets at Israel.

At least one person – a Palestinian man in the occupied West Bank – was killed during last night’s barrage. A school in central Israel and a restaurant in Tel Aviv were also hit.

The UN and EU have reiterated their calls for a ceasefire, whilst the US and UK condemned Iran’s missile attack and Joe Biden said he was “fully supportive” of Israel.
