Cliff Notes – Naga Munchetty ‘set to quit BBC Breakfast following bullying allegations’

    • Naga Munchetty is reportedly in discussions to leave BBC Breakfast for LBC amid ongoing bullying allegations linked to the programme.
    • An internal investigation into bullying claims has been initiated, with the BBC reviewing the culture of the morning show.
    • Munchetty’s salary has been revealed to be between £355,000 and £359,000, as she faces pressure from external factors affecting her role at the BBC.

Naga Munchetty is reportedly in talks to leave BBC Breakfast and go to the radio station LBC.

It comes after the broadcaster’s flagship morning programme was hit with bullying allegations, including against the 50-year-old TV presenter.

It was reported earlier this year that an internal investigation was being carried out into allegations of bullying at the BBC show.

It was then confirmed that the editor of BBC Breakfast, Richard Frediani, would be taking a period of extended leave from the programme. He has headed up the daily show from Salford since 2019.

A month later, it was then reported by Deadline that Frediani had returned to the show.

The Sun has also reported claims that Munchetty faced her own bullying allegations and had been spoken to by BBC bosses over two incidents in three years.

The publication has now claimed Munchetty, who has presented the BBC programme since 2014, is on the verge of quitting the public service broadcaster, with her representatives said to have renewed talks last week with radio station rival LBC.

An inside source told the publication: ‘Naga loves the BBC and her job but there’s only so much external noise anyone is prepared to take.

‘Her team last week renewed talks with LBC. The Global Radio station would suit her as there’s far less of the fluffy nonsense that’s involved in working at the BBC.’

An HR adviser from consultancy firm PwC is supporting the Beeb as it reviews the culture of the BBC One morning show.

The report of Munchetty’s possible departure comes after the top BBC salaries were once again revealed this week, with the annual report revealed that she takes home between £355,000 and £359,000.

In the wake of the bullying allegations at BBC Breakfast, the BBC said it did not comment on individual cases but takes ‘all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously and will not tolerate behaviour that is not in line with our values’.

A BBC statement added: ‘We have robust processes in place and would encourage any staff with concerns to raise them directly with us so they can be addressed.’

Metro contacted the BBC and Naga Munchetty’s representatives for comment.
