    August 12, 2024

The parents of a Southport knife victim have released a picture of her at the Taylor Swift dance party that ended in tragedy, the Daily Mirror reports. The heartbreaking words of Southport stabbing victim Alice da Silva Aguiar’s parents were read out at her funeral on Sunday, which was attended by hundreds of people paying their respects to the tragically slain nine-year-old.

Southport stabbing victim’s parents in heartbreaking message to rioters in name of their little girl

The heartbreaking words of Southport stabbing victim Alice da Silva Aguiar’s parents were read out at her funeral on Sunday, which was attended by hundreds of people paying their respects to the tragically slain nine-year-old. Despite having to grapple with their unimaginable grief at the loss of their child, Alice’s parents took a moment to decry the violent riots that have been supposedly carried out in her name.

Alice’s parents also had an emotional final message to their “bright” and “inquisitive” daughter, who they called their “beloved angel”. Speaking during the funeral at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Southport, which was also attended by the emergency services that responded on that awful day, July 29, they said: “Keep dancing. Mummy and Daddy will always, always love you.”

Tom Cruise performs incredible stunt at star-studded Paris Olympics 2024 closing ceremony

Tom Cruise performed a breathtaking leap from the top of the Stade de France as the Olympics staged a showstopping finale.

The Mission: Impossible star, 62, plunged 35 metres from the roof on a rope into the arena, before heading to meet the Mayor of Los Angeles and gymnast Simone Biles. He then drove off on a motorbike, carrying the US flag. It was a classic conclusion to the greatest show on earth.

In a special video segment, he was seen riding the motorbike all the way to Los Angeles, before climbing to the top of the Hollywood sign and turning its famous letters into the 5 Olympic rings. Team GB’s flagbearers were two of our gold medallists who lit up the Games. Trampolinist Bryony Page and triathlon star Alex Yee smiled as they stepped into the arena, proud to have played their part in the spectacle.

‘No more rioting in the name of our little girl’ & ‘Olympics end in style’ - Paper Talk

    Editorial 12 August 2024.

Monday’s front pages cover various stories. Most of the papers feature striking images from last night’s Paris Olympics closing ceremony as the Games ended in ‘spectacular style.’

The funeral of Alice da Silva Aguiar is also pictured on the front pages – and is the lead story for many of the tabloids. The nine-year-old was stabbed to death, along with two other little girls, at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class.

Several broadsheets continue their coverage around the riots that followed the murder of the three little girls with the worst of the violence appearing to be behind us now. The aftermath of the rioting – and what comes next – is covered by the papers, with each offering up their analysis and opinions about the future.
