Huge mudslide leaves at least 11 dead as 40 people are swept away in horror flood
The Metro says at least 11 people have been killed in a landslide after Ecuador was rocked by its heaviest flooding in nearly two decades.
Cars and houses were swept away in the capital Quito, as torrents of water brought boulders and mud down the city’s streets.
Some 32 people are injured according to the latest count, with family homes also destroyed.
Torrential rain overflowed a water collection structure, sending streams pouring down a nearby hillside onto a sports ground where several people were practicing, authorities said.
