Monty Python’s Eric Idle has some scathing words for Charles on coronation day: ‘F**k kings’

It’s fair to say Monty Python’s Eric Idle isn’t a royalist.

On the day of King Charles III’s Coronation, the actor had some scathing words for the monarch, who was officially crowned at Westminster Abbey today (May 6), along with Queen Camilla.

Making his views on the Royal Family quite clear, the 80-year-old shared a simple, but effective, message.

‘F**k kings’, he tweeted – straight to the point.

Naturally, given that he boasts over 500,000 followers, Eric’s tweet caused quite a stir.

In response, one person replied: ‘I take it you didn’t watch the Coronation then?’

‘Not since 1953’, Eric responded, referring to the late Queen’s crowning.

‘I think you sorta just now answered my question about your openness to receiving an OBE knighthood’, another follower replied.

Agreeing with his stance, one added: ‘Long live Eric Idle.’

In a further tweet, Eric added: ‘To believe in Kings you need to believe in Gods. I believe in neither.’

And when one concerned fan suggested he might get in trouble for his post – given the arrests of protestors this weekend – Eric assured he’s nowhere near home soil.

‘I’m not on the soggy streets of London,’ he assured. ‘I’m watching footie in California.’

Coronation of King Charles III latest

The historic Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla will take place in Westminster Abbey today (May 6).

Despite Eric’s views on the monarchy, it seems the King is actually quite a fan of his – well, he was, last time we checked.

In fact, Charles actually gave British comedy Monty Python a shout-out in his recent speech addressing the German parliament.

And according to Eric himself, the monarch once asked the comedian to take a job as his personal court jester.

Writing in his book, Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, he explained that he met then-Prince Charles during a dinner party at Billy Connolly’s house.

Also in attendance were famous guests such as Robin Williams — because, as Idle put it, the ‘Royal Heir loves comedians.’

At one point, Charles turned to Eric and said: ‘Eric, why don’t you become my jester?”’

As the rest of the room awaited his reply, Eric eventually blurted out: ‘Why would I want a f***ing awful job like that?’

Despite his sharp words, Eric insisted previously that he was secretly ‘very flattered’ by the royal’s proposal, as Charles laughed at his flippant response.

Although, we can’t see that happening anytime soon…

Eric isn’t the only celeb expressing anti-royal views this coronation weekend.

He also went viral when a 2012 interview of his resurfaced, in which he branded the Royal Family ‘f***ing idiots’ who’ve ‘never done anything.’

What’s more, controversial star Russell Brand took to his podcast to mock the idea that the monarchy could ever be ‘modern.’
