‘Madness’ – Jamie Carragher slams Egypt’s Mohamed Salah penalty decision after AFCON final defeat
The Metro says Jamie Carragher says it was ‘madness’ that Mohamed Salah did not take a penalty in Egypt’s shootout defeat to Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations final.
Salah was due to take Egypt’s fifth penalty but the final was lost before he stepped up as two of his team-mates missed from the spot.
It was Salah’s Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane who scored the decisive penalty to clinch Senegal’s first-ever Africa Cup of Nations victory, after the final ended goalless following extra time.
