Missing UAE princess is at home recovering

The UAE embassy in London said, in a statement Friday, that Sheikha Latifa, dubbed ‘the missing UAE princess’ who says she is “being held hostage” by her father, the ruler of Dubai, is receiving home care and her health is improving.

The embassy announced that her family confirmed that Sheikha Latifa is receiving home care with the support of her family and health workers amid improved health, expressing hope that public life will resume at an appropriate time.

This came in response to the BBC and other British Media publishing a video in which it says she is a hostage in her own country, held by her own father, and is in fear of her life.

Sheikha Latifa, a daughter of Dubai’s leader, appeared in a video saying she was being held against her will in a barricaded villa.

Tensions strained between the UK & UAE

The footage was published Tuesday by BBC’s investigative news program Panorama.

Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed Al-Maktoum drew international attention in 2018 when a human rights group released a video made by her in which she described an attempt to escape Dubai.

Last March, a London High Court judge said he accepted as proved a series of allegations made by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum’s former wife, Princess Haya, in a legal battle, including that the sheikh ordered the abduction of Latifa. The sheikh’s lawyers rejected the allegations.

Tensions have been strained between the UAE and UK in recent months, the travel ban for the UAE irked the Emirati government who in turn retaliated and banned all flights from the UK.
