The Israeli Air Force said it bombed militia military facilities in response to a repelled rocket attack by Houthi rebels in Yemen. The Israeli army announced early this morning that, among other things, ports and energy infrastructure on the west coast and inland of Yemen were attacked. They were used by the rebels for military purposes. Attacks were also reported in the capital.
Shortly before, the Israeli Air Force said it had intercepted a rocket fired from Yemen outside its own borders that night. Warning sirens sounded in several areas in central Israel, including the coastal metropolis of Tel Aviv. The army said the sirens were triggered by the launch because of possible falling rocket parts. The Houthi rebels initially did not comment on the incident.
Like Lebanon’s Hezbollah, the militia is allied with Israel’s arch-enemy Iran. Even after the ceasefire in Lebanon, it continued its attacks on Israel, around 1,800 kilometers away. The militia says it is acting to support Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, where Israel has been waging war against the Islamist organization since Hamas’ terrorist attack on October 7, 2023.
Recently, a house in Israel was hit in a drone attack from Yemen. In July, a man died in Tel Aviv when he was hit by a missile from Yemen. Israel struck targets in Yemen, including power plants and a port, in retaliation for Houthi attacks in July and September. Several people were killed.
