Mexico surfer deaths: Man charged confessed to girlfriend, court told

In Mexico, a man charged over the disappearance of three tourists on a surfing trip confessed to killing them, a court has heard.

Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad went missing on April 27 near Ensenada.

The suspect, known as “El Kekas,” faced kidnapping charges in court, with murder charges expected soon. He hasn’t entered a plea yet.

Officials in Baja California state suggested the tourists, all in their early 30s, were killed while trying to stop thieves from stealing their pickup truck’s tyres. Their bodies, each with a gunshot wound to the head, were found six days later in a cliffside well. Another body, unrelated to the case, was also found there.

The suspect, identified only by his first names, Jesús Gerardo, faces charges of forced disappearance. His girlfriend, Ari Gisel, and another man are detained as suspected accomplices.

During the court session, prosecutors named Ari as a witness. She allegedly told investigators that Jesús confessed to killing the tourists and showed her stolen tyres from their car. Prosecutors also suggested others were involved in the killings.
