Fans were thrilled to see the return of the action-packed flick starring Jason Statham as Warner Bros Pictures released the trailer for Meg 2: The Trench.
The 55-year-old actor reprised his role as Jonas Taylor after the character defeated the enormous megalodon shark in the first film back in 2018.
In the latest clip from the upcoming sequel, Jason’s role was seen teaming up with international action star Jing Wu – who plays Wolf Warrior – to tackle the new film’s villains.
As multiple sharks – Megs – began emerging from the depths of the ocean, they continued their work as researchers on a dive to discover the bottom of the sea.
However, their journey was interrupted by a mysterious mining operation that the duo then set out to expose.
The explosive thriller is due to be released in cinemas later this summer on August 4 and also stars original castmembers Sophia Cai, Page Kennedy, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Skyler Samuels and Cliff Curtis – who was a regular in the Avatar franchise.

Building anticipation, the snippet started with an explanation of the earth’s food chain and viewers watched as a small insect was eaten by a lizard and gradually grew into something much bigger.
A graphic on screen then shows a message that reads: ‘For 65 million years one species ruled the world,’ following which audiences noticed a dinosaur launched itself out of the woods before the infamous meg shark springs from the ocean and gobbles the dinosaur.
Cutting to Jason’s character, the film’s hero was seen being asked for help by a man who said: ‘We’re detecting increased aquatic activity 25,000 feet deep in the trench.

‘It’s an ancient ecosystem untouched by man,’ Cliff’s James ‘Mac’ Mackreides reveals. He continues: ‘Whatever is down there, is trying to make its way to the surface.’
As the action ramps up, the team were filmed getting ready to take on the megs and the final credits rolled as Jason attempted to escape the large creature’s jaws while driving a jet ski.
Fans online reacted to the footage with one penning: ‘Wow, I can’t wait to see the ultimate prehistoric battle of Megalodon vs T-Rex in The Meg 2: The Trench! It’s going to be jawsome! [sic].’
Another noted: ‘THE MEG 2 looks amazing! I hope this can be our summer franchise for the next 10 years [sic].’
