Max Verstappen has named the drivers who would be in his Formula One dream team – and his picks may raise some eyebrows.
2024 will be a big year for Verstappen as he’ll be aiming to win a fourth consecutive world title, and has to live up to the extremely high standards of last season when he won 19 of 22 races.
But it could also be the last year that he has Sergio Perez as a teammate, with Red Bull weighing up their options as the 33-year-old’s contract nears its end.
The Mexican finished second in the championship last season, winning two races, but largely struggled for pace and consistency, especially compared to the Dutchman.
As a result, many expect that if Perez’s form does not improve in 2024, he will be out of a drive, with various names linked with one of the most desirable seats on the grid.
Daniel Ricciardo, Lando Norris, Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson are considered the frontrunners to join Red Bull, and it would appear that Verstappen has a preference among them.
In an interview with German publication Auto Motor und Sport, the 26-year-old was asked to pick his dream driver line-up if he were a team boss, and initially suggested that he would pick himself if that were allowed.

As for his teammate, he said: ‘I would choose Lando. He’s still young, with a long career ahead of him. And he can also be very, very fast.’
This is perhaps unsurprising given that Verstappen and Norris are good friends off the track, while the Brit is also considered one of the fastest on the grid, held in the same regard as the likes of Sir Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.
But while Verstappen would relish the chance to test himself against Norris in equal machinery, it seems unlikely Red Bull would sign a driver that could also potentially destabilise the team if the pair came to blows on the track, while Norris is also locked in at McLaren until the end of 2025.

Verstappen went onto to say that if he couldn’t pick himself to drive he would choose to hire Norris’ McLaren teammate, adding: ‘I would take Lando and Oscar [Piastri].
‘So the McLaren pairing. Both are good. Lando is just a bit older than Oscar.
‘I think Oscar is a fast rookie. He still has things to learn and can improve his race pace, for example. But from what I see, he’s a smart guy. He will win his races.’
