Mauricio Pochettino has urged Chelsea to learn from ‘mistakes’ under Todd Boehly and admits the Blues made ‘too many changes’ in the summer.
The west Londoners have spent over £1 billion on players – mostly young stars – since Boehly came in as co-owner to replace Roman Abramovich in May 2022.
But their massive spending has not translated into success on the pitch with Chelsea suffering a 12th-placed finish in the Premier League last term.
Chelsea’s hierarchy decided to appoint Pochettino as head coach this summer in order to turn the club’s fortunes around but there are little signs of improvement with the Blues 11th after their opening 10 fixtures of the 2023-24 season.
But there appears to be change afoot for the upcoming January window with Boehly finally handing Pochettino greater influence over transfer decisions.
While Pochettino refused to blame Chelsea’s hierarchy for the club’s struggles and was keen to avoid causing ‘division’ – he has made it clear he wants Chelsea to learn from their various mistakes that have occurred under the new ownership.
‘Things that go against you, you have to try to resist them and try to survive,’ Pochettino said.

‘You have to be quiet and be strong. And not to lose your balance, because it is easy to blame or say something that is going to affect other people and lead to division in the club.
‘The important thing is to trust the ideas, the judgment and analysis of why certain things have not happened. To help the organisation to be better and to improve, and not to make the same mistakes again. The most important thing is to learn from the mistakes.’
Later, in a response to a question about Nicolas Jackson, Pochettino added: ‘At the moment, I think we are a young team, a young team means too many changes in the summer because of the circumstances and we are suffering – sometimes good and bad results, but performances are consistent.’
